snowbound necessity six: holiday busy work

well, here comes the snow (again). looks like mpls is set to get four to eight inches today/tonight with a second storm later this week. to continue my snowbound necessity list, finding an activity to keep you from going stir crazy might be a good idea. building and decorating gingerbread houses sounds like a fun and time-consuming activity to ward off cabin fever.

i've been gathering gingerbread house ideas and have found myself drawn to those without all the brightly colored candy bells and whistles. here are some pretty examples.

martha shows you how to make this swedish gingerbread cottage [above] by using caramel to join the seams. cute touch with the cinnamon stick bundle.

simple graham cracker houses seem like an easy first construction attempt.

i like the round shingles on this little guy.

love the architecturally inspired gingerbread homes, like these two via apartment therapy.

love. just keep it real with cookies.

seems appropriate to end with a not martha how-to for tiny gingerbread houses that are meant to rest on the lip of your cup. would be so cute to pair with a mug and hot chocolate mix for a christmas gift, no?

more snowbound necessity inspiration:

one: blankets
two: take a walk (and bring a camera)
three: long john layers
four: books books books
five: music on vinyl
