lisa solomon

i was browsing the beholder and came across lisa solomon's work, which looks familiar but i'm glad i ran into it again. i admire her ingenuity, first of all. taking mundane objects and mediums (paint chips! sewing!) and turning them into sweet yet simple little artworks is so original. this idea segues into her "notion of hybridization" - taking unrelated elements and combining them. i'm also a fan of the found object. it's inspiring to realize you can look around you and see art in things that are unconventional as far as the idea of artmaking.
plus, i love her dangling strings!
the beholder is a great resource for art that you can actually buy. based on the concept of accessibility, the beholder aims to bring art to the consumer outside the gallery system and connect artists with larger audiences.
